Abstract
This paper investigates the impact of peace on internal academic migration in Colombia, a country with over 9.6 million people affected by conflict. Employing a Difference-in-Differences approach, the study reveals that both the preference for and overall rates of academic migration decreased from violence-affected areas following the announcement of peace negotiations. Notably, the peace negotiations did not affect broader educational preferences or graduation rates in higher education. Thus, peace fosters a compositional change in higher education, promoting local human capital formation in regions most impacted by conflict.
