Abstract:
Directional data involve observations that are typically unit vectors in the plane or in 3-space, or rotations of some Euclidean space. This gives the topic a nice geometrical flavour. In this talk I aim to show what fun this is by introducing problems arising in learning , earthquakes and crystals, and presenting solutions involving Euclidean spaces and rotation groups.
