About us

A highly qualified centre of excellence for research and training in the field of statistics and quantitative analysis.

Data science, statistics and quantitative analysis are fundamental tools for understanding complex phenomena, making accurate predictions and providing evidence to support political and business decisions: competencies whose importance will continue to grow as the availability of big data increases and the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence expand.

Thanks to the multidisciplinary approach and the integration of knowledge that characterise the Department of Statistical Sciences, we help people to understand the importance of a statistical culture, which is fundamental to fostering active and informed citizenship and building an inclusive and sustainable society.

STAT’s research activity is primarily focused on the following broad areas: biodemography, mathematics, applied mathematics, statistical methodology, economic statistics and applied economics, and achieves excellence, including in terms of the publication of research outputs.

A multicampus department, situated between Bologna and Rimini

We were among the first to embrace the challenges and opportunities presented by the University’s Multicampus structure: this enables us to reach a wider student community and offer a diverse range of programmes, in line with the needs of the job market. Indeed, the academic programmes take on a distinct character at our two campuses in Rimini and Bologna.

Why study statistics

Our department holds a prominent position nationally in terms of its appeal to students who regularly graduate with degrees in statistical and quantitative fields.

Our study paths provide a broad-based education in the analytical potential offered by statistical and quantitative methodology as a tool for understanding economic, biological, social and financial phenomena.
