"World Population Growth: Past, Present, and Future" - Lecture by Julie DaVanzo, RAND Corporation, Los Angeles, USA

  • Data: 11 ottobre 2016 dalle 17:30 alle 19:30

  • Luogo: Sala Rossa, Palazzo Marchesini, via Marsala 26, Bologna (first floor)

The population of the world is nearly 7.5 billion.  However, it didn’t reach its first billion until around 1800, and it took another 130 years to add its second billion.  Since then, population growth has accelerated, with last billion added in only 12 years.

This lecture will review trends in world population growth -- past, present, and future – and the reasons for them and their likely consequences.  Attention will be given to the differences among regions – ranging from some less developed countries that still have high fertility rates and rapidly growing, young populations to countries with low fertility rates, older populations, and shrinking populations of working age.

The visit of Julie DaVanzo is promoted by Rosella Rettaroli from Department of Statistical Sciences "Paolo Fortunati".
